If you decide to go down the DIY approach, preparation is key … its generally better to paint the ceiling first and work down to the walls. Also make sure any furniture is fully covered before you start, paint will drip!

Consider taking the ceiling colour down to the picture rail to maximise the impact and play up architectural features like the cornice.

Or simply paint the whole room one color for a more polished and cohesive look, it can create a cocooning effect that isn’t possible with a white ceiling.
